FAQ

  • What is regenerative landscaping?

Regenerative landscaping focuses on increasing the health and productivity of ecosystems by enhancing life-giving processes like building soil carbon, catching and storing water, and creating wildlife habitat. Unlike "green" or "sustainable" landscaping, which often focuses on doing "less harm," regeneration aims to leave the ecosystem in better shape than it was found

  • How does Permaculture Artisans incorporate "Whole Systems Thinking"?

As whole systems thinkers, we believe that elements like nontoxic natural building, watershed health, habitat development, and the local economy are all interconnected and cannot be separated. Our designs aim to close loops by ensuring the waste of one element becomes the food for another.

  • Why do I need a Conceptual Master Plan?

A well-made master plan is a vital tool for communicating ideas, guiding installation, and making collective decisions with project stakeholders. It ensures that all elements—from earthworks to patios—are integrated into a single, cohesive design.

  • What is your approach to water management?

We follow the "Three S’s": Slow it, Spread it, Sink it. We design landscapes to intercept runoff and direct it into rain gardens, swales, or ponds, allowing water to "rest" and percolate into the ground to recharge aquifers rather than causing erosion

  • Can you help make my property more fire-resilient?

Yes. Our designers are Firescaping RQP certified. We utilize fire resiliency techniques like creating defensible space within 100 feet of the home, removing "fuel ladders" (low-hanging branches), and using irrigated vegetation to buffer heat.

  • How long does the Design and Estimate process take?

Each project follows its own natural trajectory, but a moderate-scale design usually requires a minimum of four to six weeks to account for site analysis and stakeholder feedback.
